Use the component to VGA adapter.
You can’t (at least not cheaply/easily .. see link) connect HDMI (or DVI) to component/VGA since the former is digital and the latter is analog.
Your projector doesn’t have a digital input, so neither DVI nor HDMI is an option.
So you don’t feel you are missing anything: a) your projector isn’t an HD model (I’m guessing 800×600 resolution) so likely doesn’t even accept 1080p (probably maximum of 1080i), and b) component will handle up to 1080i and look identical to the same signal on HDMI, and c) since your DVD player is only upscaling the DVD signal (480 lines resolution) to 720p, 1080i or (maybe) 1080p anyway, you aren’t losing anything.
